Showa has developed a denim fabric which is made from 100% silk, while in functional apparel Haruyama Trading has developed a new suit which helps to protect against influenza. In fabric and finishing treatments, Novozymes and Esquel have developed an eco-friendly fabric softening treatment which can be carried out during dyeing, and Avery Dennison has developed a new finishing treatment which produces a crinkled effect on garment labels, trims and tapes. In machinery, Shima Seiki has launched a temporary customised knitwear service in order to raise the profile of its Wholegarment apparel high-end knitting machines, which are able to make seam-free garments that are comfortable to wear. Also, Juki Corporation is planning to introduce a new range of low-priced industrial sewing machines in Brazil, China and Indonesia.
Schoeller Technologies has been presented with the 2009 Textile Design Award by Swiss Textiles & Zumsteg Foundation for its coldblack finishing treatment.
In software, Lectra has introduced new versions of Kaledo, its textile design software, and Lectra Fashion PLM, its product life cycle management (PLM) software, for the apparel industry. In inventory management, Trespass has selected VoiteQ’s Vocollect Voice, a voice directed system, to be implemented at its distribution facility in Glasgow, UK, in order to increase efficiency in its distribution operations.
In retail, Mark’s Work Wearhouse has launched a pilot scheme which allows customers to stand in an in-store freezer and test the insulation properties of a garment.
