While the telecom industry recalibrates its investment strategies in light of pre-9/11/01 realities, new user demands have emerged, particularly in the corporate market, where secure connectivity to data and employees is a critical issue. To pinpoint the precise areas where changes in telecom markets will occur, as a result of September 11, 2001, and the new focus on 'business continuities,' the TOR experts have provided their perspective on the future in an addendum to the Telecom Outlook Report: Millennial Edition.
Newly analyzed TOR survey results help to illuminate some of the complexity evident in the current telecom environment. First of all, some of the basic features of the global business can be expected to continue and intensify. The forces of globalization will continue to drive businesses telecom needs, although a greater emphasis on security-perhaps through implementing diverse telecom networks utilizing the Internet, virtual private networks, and wireless technologies-can be anticipated.
