He currently heads a research team working to identify and characterize novel vaccine strains derived from Listeria monocytogenes. In addition, he evaluates progress and opportunities throughout the entire field of cancer vaccines as part of his responsibility for internal and external research collaborations. Prior to Cerus, he led a research team at Aventis Gencell working to identify novel anti-angiogenic genes. In addition, he used in vitro and in vivo models for cancer to assess mechanisms of action of adenoviral-based immuno gene therapy. Prior to Aventis, he contributed to clinical studies at Stanford University, assessing the immuno-stimulatory efficacy of tumor-antigen pulsed dendritic cells administered via different routes. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and is an inventor of one issued and four submitted patents. Dr. Brockstedt received his PhD in immunology from the University of Kiel (Germany) for research primarily conducted at Stanford on the delivery of tumor antigens into the MHC class I pathway of antigen presenting cells.
