Brazil - Fixed-Line Infrastructure - Overview, Statistics & Market Forecasts
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., June 2009, Pages: 10
As in almost all of Latin America, fixed-mobile substitution is a prominent factor in Brazil’s telecom industry, with conventional telephones increasingly losing customers to mobility. Consequently, Brazil’s fixed-line market has been stagnating since 2002. Some slight recovery took place in 2008-09, but annual growth has been insufficient to raise teledensity to its 2002 level. Because of remoteness problems, Brazil is very active in the satellite sector. Three companies operate national satellites: Star One, Telesat Brasil, and Hispamar. The country’s VoIP subscribers tripled in 2008 to reach roughly 2 million by year-end. VoIP services are provided by a large number of companies led by Embratel/Net, GVT, and Skype. This report provides an overview of Brazil’s telecom infrastructure, accompanied by relevant statistics, analyses, and fixed-line scenario forecasts for the years 2013 and 2018.
