Global - Wireless Broadband - Analyses Statistics & Forecasts
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., June 2008, Pages: 12
The future of wireless/mobile rests very much with ‘personal broadband’, and while it is important to discuss the pros and cons of the various technologies, a change in business models is what is really needed to move this market forward. In terms of developments, after years of waiting, the WiMAX standard was finally ratified in late 2005 and by early 2006 the first certified products had begun to arrive. Full commercial deployment was expected in 2007/08, but the collapse of the Sprint-Nextel/Clearwire partnership has seriously dented this goal. Some in the mobile industry favour Long Term Evolution (LTE) as the favourite road to 4G and in 2008 support towards LTE is intensifying. This report provides high level analyses of the wireless broadband sector and includes some initial statistics and forecasts. Detailed information on WiMAX is available from separate reports.
