Pulmonary hypertension is a niche market that has, up until recently, been largely neglected in terms of the development of practical treatments. However, the number of promising compounds now in late stage development, as evidenced by the filing of the first endothelin receptor antagonist, Tracleer (bosentan), in Europe in February 2001, provides an ideal opportunity to assess the future prospects of this market.
