South Korea - Major Telecom Operators - Overview & Statistics
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., July 2009, Pages: 21
Synopsis The fixed-line telephone market in South Korea continues to be dominated by the incumbent KT Corp. Dacom entered the local call services in 2004 and expanded into VoIP services in 2006 and Hanaro Telecom moved into the long-distance and international markets, as both telcos looked for new areas of growth. Hanaro was acquired by SKT in late 2008 and became known as SK Broadband, competing aggressively with the Dacom subsidiary LG Powercom. The three main mobile operators in South Korea are SK Telecom, KTF (formerly known as KT Freetel) and LG Telecom. This report examines the major fixed-line carriers and mobile operators in South Korea.
