The Market for Municipal Waste Management in Italy
Ecoprog GmbH, Aug 2009, Pages: 706
The Italian market for waste management is one of the most exciting and dynamic in Europe. The country merges distinctly different phenomena: it stands for overfilled landfills and disposal shortfalls, however, at the same time waste utilisation increased by more than 30 per cent since 2003.
More than 120 mechanical biological treatment plants and almost 50 waste incineration plants are operational in Italy – still, Italian waste is exported to Germany for incineration.
In the light of this development, ecoprog GmbH and its partners Dr.-Ing. Giuseppe Pastorelli and Labelab srl analysed the Italian disposal market for municipal waste in detail.
The up to date study includes an in-depth analysis based on our market knowledge and detailed surveys. It offers figures, facts, estimations and trends in the Italian market for waste management and is of interest for producers, suppliers, operators, business associations, research institutes and consultants.
The market study on municipal waste management in Italy includes the following specific information:
- A detailed analysis of structure, responsibilities, development status and investment needs in the Italian waste industry and the identification of regional foci with increased need for action.
- The identification of more than 800 public waste management bodies for the collection and disposal of municipal waste, including disposal areas and contact data. Around 92 per cent of the Italian inhabitants live in the disposal areas covered by these institutions.
- An analysis of the waste management companies for waste collection in the several municipalities and provinces, including market shares, disposal area, contact data and affiliated group. Around 85 per cent of the Italian inhabitants live in the disposal areas covered by these companies.
- Detailed description of the almost 50 waste incineration plants, more than 120 mechanical biological treatment plants, over 170 composting plants and 270 landfills for municipal waste, including capacities, names of operators and contact data. Based on this information, we also analysed the companies for the treatment and disposal of municipal waste, including market shares, contact data and affiliated group.
- Additional information on further incineration plants, mechanical biological plants and refuse derived fuel power plants which are currently under construction, planned or discussed.
