Wireless Mobility: Customer Requirements
IEC Publications
The promise-and perhaps the peril-of today's wireless telecommunications market is grounded in its wide range of access devices, which offers a broad playing field on which to deploy many types of applications and varied content. To realize most of these possibilities, communications and service providers will have to consider both new network infrastructure and new partnerships. And they will have to tap into deep, current knowledge of the needs of specific geographic, demographic and vertical markets, in order to strategize not only what products to deploy but when to roll them out. Wireless Mobility: Customer Requirements is the result of an extensive survey of communications-industry executives conducted by the Center for Telecom Management at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business. Published by the International Engineering consortium, the report quantifies the industry's best thinking on what consumers will want from wireless communications, how those needs will differ among regional markets, and what strategic moves will be required to fill those needs and find success in mobile data. The study provides forecasts for wireless applications and services in both the consumer and enterprise markets, and identifies the drivers as well as the obstacles that must be addressed to achieve growth in those markets. In addition, it considers the billing modes and business models that are most likely to succeed, with an eye toward regional and cultural differences among the markets. Authoritative and up-to-the-minute, Wireless Mobility: Customer Requirements will be required reading for any carrier or vendor looking to establish a foothold in this burgeoning service space. Principal investigator Dr. Elizabeth Fife has conducted research and written about trends in the field of telecommunications for over 10 years. In addition to her responsibilities as Editor of the Telecom Outlook Report, she is a researcher at the Center for Telecom Management. Dr. Fife also teaches technical communications at the University of Southern California's School of Engineering.
