Despite Uncertainty, Leading Telephony Industry Players Commit to Mass-Market VoIP Deployment
Yankee Group, The, Aug 2004
In 2003, the local VoIP market finally reached critical mass. Although still in the formative stages, VoIP gained enough market and industry attention in 2003 to catapult it from a technology trial phase into the next stage of real growth. With major MSOs, Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Cablevision committed to launching VoIP services to their entire high-speed data (HSD) footprints, and alternative providers such as Vonage gaining traction in the consumer market, VoIP is finally becoming a reality.
This report examines the U.S. VoIP market activity and forecasts subscribers through 2008. A snapshot of activity in the MSO, alternative voice, incumbent local voice and long-distance markets are provided and recommendations are made for each of these markets.
