Internet Users in Europe
Using the International Telecommunication Union data as a benchmark, this report estimates there were 208.2 million Internet users in Europe at the end of 2003, which corresponds closely with Morgan Stanley's estimate that Western Europe contained 164.7 million users, while the remainder of Europe contained 43.5 million.
Internet users grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2000 and 2003 of 24.5%.. Southern, Central and Eastern Europe grew at a CAGR of 46.7%.
The 10 largest Internet markets in Europe at the end of 2003 comprised 79% of all European Internet users and numbered 165.1 million. Germany is the largest market in Europe, followed by the UK, which now has over 30 million Internet users. Three countries outside Western Europe, Poland, Russia and Turkey, made the top 10. Poland is the fifth largest Internet market in Europe, ahead of Spain, which has a population of similar proportions.
