The Taiwanese Switch Industry, 1H 2004 and Beyond
Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) [a division of Institute for Information Industry (III)], Oct 2004, Pages: 23
Second quarter corporate market demand was lower than originally anticipated. However, the impact of the low season was relatively limited, and with production for some first quarter contracts not beginning until the second quarter, the total shipment volume for Taiwanese switch makers remained high. Taiwanese makers continue to reorient their product lines towards Gigabit Ethernet and Layer 3 switches. However, global demand for GbE and Layer 3 switches was lower than expected, suppressing any dramatic increase in high-end share. Despite improved seasonality in the second half of 2004, inventory levels are high, oil prices are rising, and US interest rates are moving upward, all of which will hinder Taiwanese switch shipment growth.
