Fiber Fascinates, but Telcos Will Compete Using Copper
Yankee Group, The, Sep 2004, Pages: 12
Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) should make a significant mark on the North American broadband landscape in 2004. Even though some in the industry may be pessimistic because they were part of a failed effort to deploy FTTP, the vendors that stand to profit from mass deployment are optimistic. In the midst of the excitement and debate surrounding FTTP deployment, DSL stands ready to act as the primary data connectivity solution for telecom providers during the next decade. In this report, we examine the strategic importance of DSL and recommends that telco broadband providers use the technology as a centerpiece for data communications strategies in the near term and for the next 5 to 10 years.
