The Greater Chinese Motherboard Industry, 3Q 2004 and Beyond
Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) [a division of Institute for Information Industry (III)], Jan 2005
With consumer demand in the clone market warming more slowly than expected, and with corporate demand mostly flat, the Greater Chinese motherboard industry grew by a moderate 4.1% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2004 to reach roughly 34.8 million units. A market run on value-line offerings caused shipment value to plunge 7.4%. Hopes are high that rising consumption levels in the fourth quarter will set off a new wave of shipment growth to the clone market. Demand for AMD's K8 core CPU along with the rollout of new offerings is expected to stimulate shipments of high-end motherboards. List of Topics Quarterly shipment volume forecast for 4Q 2004 through 4Q 2005; special discussion on upcoming release of dual-core CPU from Intel and AMD, a review of developments within the industry in 3Q 2004, including assembly level breakdowns of Greater Chinese motherboard shipment volume, shipment value and ASP, connector types, chipset adoption, production locations, shipment destinations, and business types.
