In the third quarter of 2004, Motorola and Sony Ericsson adjusted their product lines and then switched their Taiwanese partners. Taiwanese mobile phone shipment volume thus suffered a drop of nearly 10% sequentially to approximately 11.4 million units. Third-quarter shipment value amounted to US$790 million, falling nearly 6% sequentially. ASP slightly improved to US$69 due to changes in Taiwanese makers' product mix. The fourth quarter will likely see Taiwanese shipments on a stable growth track, driven by strong demand from Western markets as well as increases in branded shipments.
