U.S. Next Generation Bio-Tools for Accelerating Bio-Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery R&D: Technologies, Opportunities and Markets
Fuji-Keizai USA, Inc., Pages: 133
This report is new research about the technologies, opportunities and the market for next generation bio-tools that are being used for accelerating the research processes and capabilities of bio-pharmaceutical drug discovery. Next generation bio-tools market is the emerging and smaller subset of the bio-tools market. This study has found that the total next generation bio-tools market size in 2001 is about $1.4 billion and is projected to double to about $2.9 billion in 2005 with a Cagr of 23.7%. This report has found that the big pharma industry generated about $250 billion in 2001 and is facing many important issues that could be helped with next generation bio-tools. Pharma companies have seen their R&D costs explode as their delivery of new drug products have declined. Many of their high priced $billion+ blockbuster drugs will reach their patent expirey dates by 2005-2006 and draw competition from generic drug makers. These companies have tried growing through M&As, but their growth has not increased. As a result, pharma companies have increasingly become a source of strong financial and research partners with many of the companies that comprise about 1360 companies that make up the biotechnology industry. Pharma companies are motivated to become customers and partners of bio-tools companies because the many 'tools' companies have technologies that might help the big pharma companies become more productive and deliver more than one product, in a shortened time frame rather than in the current 10-15 year drug development process. Accelerating the drug making process means turning to modern industrialization of R&D, using genomics and proteomics technologies, and other that bio-tools companies can provide. The report discusses are these important issues with interesting and useful findings. This study uses more than 20 figures and tables to illustrate the findings.
