This is an industry survey report that focuses on the production operations of primary assets. The overall primary focus was to understand the extent and success of use of Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems and, where applicable, Work Flow Management (WFM) systems.

Through the use of profiles or case studies, the survey examines how these solutions are used by major broadcasters and media production centers, and what changes are needed to address the evolving needs of the end users.

Four types of broadcasters are interviewed in this study: News/Sports; Broadcast/Internet; Feature Film; and Episodic Television. Each of these types illustrates a different perspective on the broadcasters' intentions and decision processes.

With the use of in-depth, structured interviews of over one hour per broadcaster, extensive insight was gained into the operations of these facilities. This industry survey is differentiated by the breadth and depth of input provided by each of the respondents.

- Why do studio/broadcast managers see Competitive Advantage as a main driver for DAM/WFM upgrades?
- Which goals have been met for DAM and WFM, and which have not?
- What were some of the surprise benefits of the installed systems?
- Why do ROI measurement metrics need to be applied to WFM now, and not in the past?
- How can studios and broadcasters pay for DAM & WFM systems from VTR replacement funds?
- What does Enterprise-level DAM planning involve, and how can it pay off even at the Departmental level?
- Why can retraining staff be a major obstacle, and what can you do about it?
