This report has been archived. The start of CDMA began with the 1800/1900 spectrum auctions in 1998. For years the incumbents had been able to delay these auctions, as they did not want to see competitors involved in the very lucrative changeover from analogue to digital in the late 1990s. In 1998 we predicted that it would be highly unlikely that CDMA would take much more than a 10% market share of the total mobile market. By early 2005 that figure was around 8%. Through CDMA 1X RTT and EVDO upgrades wireless broadband services are added to the network. Later that year Telstra announced the phasing out of its CDMA service. At its peak the technology had approx. 2 million users. Telstra and Hutchison started to migrate its customers in 2006.
