Global - Broadband - Cable vs DSL - 2004 - 2006
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., March 2007, Pages: 9
Archived report. This report was archived in 2006 and has not been updated since. Using their existing networks, in countries where they compete, cable operators established an early lead in high-speed data transfer with their cable modems. These companies have invested heavily to upgrade their cables to be able to handle the additional broadband market, and will defend that investment vigorously. Although initially reluctant to cannibalise their existing investments in leased lines, ISDN etc, telcos are now aggressively competing with xDSL technologies. As a result, with the benefit of lower prices and improving performance, DSL is growing at a faster rate and has passed cable on a global basis, although still behind in the USA and Canada.
