As an extension of the immensely popular SMS service, MMS provides the ability to send longer text messages, as well as music and pictures. It also allows the sending of messages to multiple recipients. Started in 2001, it has so far failed to take off although there is some evidence that this is beginning to change. There are however many technical and commercial issues to overcome, and in the meantime new technologies such as 3G and Mobile TV have entered the market. It looks like only wireless broadband will be able to deliver a sustainable economic platform for these triple play multimedia services. This report provides an overview and insight into the MMS market, and includes statistics and pricing information.
