Steady Growth Ahead for Hosted VoIP Solutions US IP Centrex/Hosted PBX Services
In-Stat/MDR, Nov 2005, Pages: 36
The Centrex/Hosted IP market is primed for substantial growth over the next four years. The demand in the SME market, the recognized sweet spot for these hosted services, has been accelerating for some time and will continue to perform at a year-over-year growth rate of 90% through 2009. The main drivers for the service include cost savings, an enhanced feature set including mobility and integrated messaging options, ease of use, greater control, convergence, and system access via a Web portal. This VoIP technology platform takes advantage of integration and convergence, providing significant savings while helping the SME market to become more efficient and productive. We believe the market for this service will grow to $1,270 million by 2009. While growth has been steady to date, it lags significantly behind the dynamic growth we have seen with Broadband VoIP growth in the US. This is primarily due to two factors, the transitory nature of hosted VoIP solutions - providing business customers the opportunity to trial VoIP before committing to a full VoIP PBX solution, and secondly, the tepid marketing approach of the RBOCs in this market to date.
This report found the following:
- Enhanced feature sets, particularly forwarding service that allow users to always be found and unified messaging that allows control over email and voicemail via a web portal, are beginning to drive demand.
- A Fall 2005 survey of over 1000 randomly selected business telecom decision-makers indicated that upwards of 30% of medium and enterprise businesses have at least experimented with IP Centrex/Hosted PBX solutions.
- The market is focused on customers with 10 to 300 end-users per location. The sweet spot is SME customers in the 25–60-seat-per-location range.
