The US Mobile Market:

The future of mobile entertainment may be uncertain, but one thing is certain: There's a world of potential subscribers.

There are nearly 2 billion mobile phone subscribers worldwide, according to Informa Telecoms & Media, up 22% from 2004.

Of that 2 billion, 194.6 million are in the US, reports CTIA-The Wireless Association. Growth in the US is slower, at 15% between 2004 and 2005.

We project that by 2009, there will be 240.2 million mobile subscribers in the US, a penetration of 78.4% of the population.
