The ChariteTM Artificial Disc was recently approved for use in the U.S. Approval of other artificial disc systems will soon follow. These implants may dramatically alter the spinal market over the next few years.

With predictions varying widely, we surveyed spine surgeons to understand their views on the impact of artificial discs and to learn their specific suggestions to manufacturers regarding the development and commercialization of next-generation implants.

Learn what a representative sample of 35 U. S. spine surgeons with artificial disc clinical trial experience have to say about the following:
-- What are the most challenging aspects of artificial disc arthroplasty and what are the specific suggestions to manufacturers to address these challenges.
-- What are the perceived strengths and opportunities for improvement of each of the following artificial discs.
-- Which artificial disc is most preferred, and why.
-- How will the commercial availability of artificial discs impact the treatment of current lumbar fusion cases.
-- What are the critical aspects of disc arthroplasty training and who should provide it.

Methodology
We invited 140 U.S. orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons with clinical experience
using artificial lumbar discs (Charite™ Artificial Disc, ProDisc®, FlexiCore™, or
Maverick™) to participate in a web-based survey.

Thirty-five (35) of those surgeons representing nearly 1,200 artificial discs procedures responded to the survey. This represented a 25% response rate. Respondents were affiliated with the following prestigious organizations:

Boston Spine Grou - Boston, MA
Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch - Chicago, IL
CORE Orthopedic Medical Center - Encinitas, CA
Fort Wayne Orthopedics / Lutheran Hospital - Fort Wayne, IN
Hospital for Special Surgery - New York, NY
Institute for Low Back & Neck Care - Minneapolis, MN
Mount Carmel East Hospital - Columbus, OH
Nebraska Spine Center, LLP - Omaha, NE
