Nanotechnologies for Anti-Microbial and Self-Cleaning Coatings
Nanoposts.com, Feb 2007, Pages: 75
This document describes in details universities, companies and researchers current conduction R&D in the areas of anti-microbial and self-cleaning coatings for industrial application. Through nanoscale engineering of surfaces a vast range of functionalities and new physical effects can be achieved. Furthermore a nanoscale design of surfaces is often necessary to optimize the interfaces between different material classes and to obtain the desired special properties. Coatings with thickness controlled at the nano- or atomic scale have been in routine production for some time, for example in Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) or metal oxide Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) for optoelectonic devices, or in catalytically active and chemically functionalized surfaces.
Recently developed applications include the self-cleaning window, which is coated in highly activated titanium dioxide, engineered to be highly hydrophobic (water repellent) and antibacterial, and coatings based on nanoparticulate oxides that catalytically destroy chemical agents.
The report includes: - In depth profiles of R&D and technologies under commercialization - Short, Medium and Long-Term Application Areas - Full Contact Details (Company/Research Centre Name, Main Contact Person, Phone, Email)
These cutting edge reports allow access to the latest R&D and commercial applications in nanotechnology. This report covers: - Prevention of biofilm formation in medical devices - Anti-microbial surfaces for food and drink applications - Anti-microbial encapsulation - Photocatalytic coatings for anti-soiling and anti-bacterial - Self-cleaning coatings for tiles, glass and steel - Hydrophilic and super hydrophobic coatings
