Report Highlights
Offshore markets in Dublin and the British Isles declined in 2002, mainly as a result of the continuing market downturn (Guernsey’s offshore deposits and Dublin’s offshore funds were the main contributors to this decline). However, in the period 1998-2002e the region saw relatively strong growth of 12.2% compounded annually.
Asia-Pacific and the US are significant source countries for Jersey offshore assets. And unlike UK investors who place a fairly equal portion of their assets into deposits and funds, mutual funds dominate the choice of investments for investors from the US and Asia-Pacific.
Guernsey will be the fastest-growing offshore funds market in 2003f-4f and Isle of Man will be the slowest in Guernsey’s case, growth will be driven primarily by increasing fund balances in the source countries (particularly the UK), offset somewhat by outflows due to the EU’s Savings Tax Directive.
