USA - VoIP Market - Analysis Statistics & Forecasts
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., Feb 2009, Pages: 14
Strong subscriber and revenue growth rates have positioned VoIP firmly on the US telecommunications map. Since the entry of Comcast and other cable companies, VoIP services have been emerging apace. Non-facilities based, or ‘pure play’, VoIP providers, such as Skype, are making inroads into the US VoIP market. The VoIP market has also witnessed the entry of Microsoft and Apple and Internet giants Google, Yahoo! and AOL. Threatened with growing wireline revenue and customer losses, the major telcos themselves have begun to deploy networks with a view to providing VoIP in a triple play bundle. The future of mobile VoIP is also looking promising particularly following the decisions by Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility in early 2008 to use the open access platform of LTE for their 4G investments. Mobile VoIP’s prospects were further augmented in mid-2008 when Sprint and Clearwire finally inked their deal to deploy a nationwide WiMAX network.
