People with diabetes are significant users of complementary therapies. The health professionals who care for them regularly seek appropriate information about complementary therapies so they can give informed advice and suggest appropriate treatment combinations to their patients; however, they have difficulty accessing suitable information easily. The book will bring together important information about complementary therapies and how they are used in diabetes care. It will adopt a positive stance towards complementary therapies and present information in a balanced way. The book will address the benefits and risks of complementary therapies and take an evidence-based approach.

The purpose of the book is to provide health professionals with appropriate information about complementary therapies so they can discuss these therapies with their patients and help them make informed decisions about their diabetes care. People with diabetes are likely to use several conventional drugs to meet metabolic targets and treat associated disease processes. Therefore, the possibility of adverse drug/complementary medicine events and interactions is high unless both complementary and conventional treatments are selected, used and monitored carefully. The book will include a foreword by a researcher in complementary therapies.

Complementary Therapies and the Management of Diabetes and Vascular Disease: A Matter of Balance provides health professionals with appropriate information about complementary therapies so they can discuss these therapies with their patients and help them make informed decisions about their diabetes care.
