PXI Finds New Applications While VXI Persists as the Platform of Choice for Higher Channel Count Applications
PXI is delving into newer applications, making its vendors explore niche markets such as semiconductor validation testing to maintain a healthy growth rate. On the other hand, VXI continues to be favored for its high-density, high-channel count applications such as radar and missile testing, electronic warfare, wind tunnel tests, and reliability testing of commercial aircrafts. Both PXI and VXI modular instruments still compete with the conventional rack and stack bench-top instruments.
PXI, as an established standard for system level functional test and cost-effectiveness is increasingly sought after by the semiconductor industry. “PXI market participants are also working with the semiconductor test consortium to make PXI the portable test instrument module (PTIM) standard and to further use PXI for applications not served by traditional automatic test equipment,” says the research analyst for this study. While high-density, high-channel count applications will sustain the VXI market for a long time, the general slowdown in the global economy may restrict growth of both the VXI and PXI markets.
