A timely guide to treating depression in older adults

The first book in the new Series on Geropsychology, Psychotherapy for Depression in Older Adults is a practical resource created by a team of international luminaries in the field. Developed in conjunction with the Gerontology Center of the University of Colorado, this expert guide provides evidence-based treatment approaches for alleviating depression in older adults.

Psychotherapy for Depression in Older Adults explains how to assess and treat depression using cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and problem-solving therapy.

Psychotherapy for Depression in Older Adults:

- Emphasizes the distinctive and unique characteristics of practice with older adults
- Illustrates the application of clinical skills in a wide variety of settings where older adults may be served (e.g., outpatient primary care, mental health centers, nursing homes)
- Includes extensive use of case material to illustrate specific approaches to advanced practice skills
- Provides references to specialized training materials for people with special needs

Ideal for all mental health professionals who want to increase their expertise in treating an aging population, as well as graduate students entering the field, this timely reference provides valuable information about geriatric mental health needs and services.
