Malaysia Mid Market ERP Software Market
Frost & Sullivan, July 2004
Initial ERP Implementation Phase Presents Exciting Opportunities for Vendors
The implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions in the Malaysian mid market is still at a developmental stage and this lays out several opportunities before vendors. ERP solutions help improve a company's internal operations and lay the groundwork for collaborative commerce. As high-growth businesses have started focusing on maximizing returns, streamlining fulfillment processes, and creating greater work efficiency, large ERP vendors are hoping to take advantage of this trend. They are concentrating on tapping the market for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and have introduced updated products with different features to specially cater to this market.
This Frost & Sullivan research examines the Malaysian mid market ERP (MERP) software market and its future growth trends. The study also discusses the increased business opportunities in the mid market space and prevailing industry challenges, and gives strategic recommendations to overcome them. The mid market ERP software market has been categorized into five main segments - financial management, manufacturing, sales and distribution, HR and payroll, and hosted ERP.
Special Deals for the SMB Market to Increase Adoption of ERP Solutions
As businesses expand, SMBs have been upgrading from stand-alone accounting packages to ERP solutions at affordable prices. Vendors offer ERP systems at much lower costs and their functionalities are also customized to the requirements of the mid market. MERP applications are considered strategic investments involving limited budgets and SMBs are drawn to these mainly due to the returns on investment but these returns are not likely to accrue overnight, says the analyst.
The SMB is all set to boom, with 10,140 enterprises in the segment looking to adopt IT services to compete globally. To cash in on this demand, local participants have also started offering ERP solutions. Increased participation by both regional and national vendors has made this market keenly competitive. Such an environment fosters greater product development and comprehensive business management applications at affordable prices.
Manufacturing Sector Is the Leading Market Revenue Generator
While the manufacturing sector is the largest ERP application user, other verticals such as utilities, technology and high tech, and government are not far behind in their uptake of ERP solutions. These sectors spend on technology because the scale of operations is growing rapidly. Manufacturing has experienced high growth in Malaysia and contributed more than 70 percent of the revenue and 55 percent of the employment in 2003.
Companies are trying to enhance their competitive advantage by improving customer satisfaction and building customer loyalty, notes the analyst. They are looking to MERP to help achieve this goal.
