In-Stat/MDR, Dec 2006, Pages: 36
Online console gaming had a very eventful year in 2006. Sony and Nintendo both launched new online efforts focused on providing paid downloadable content in the form of games from past consoles as well as casual games that will be available for prices ranging from $3 to $15. Meanwhile, Microsoft continued to be the leader in the online console space in 2006 with its announcement of a video and movie download service for the Xbox 360. In handheld online gaming, both Sony and Nintendo continued to increase the number of online-capable games for their respective free online services, which were both launched in 2005. Overall, the ability to generate revenue for handheld online services will be limited in comparison to console online services.
