China Machine Tool Industry Report, 2006-2007 (Chinese Version)

The machine tool industry provides equipment for manufacturing industry. Through several years of development after a recession in 2000, China machine tool industry has doubled its total production value and sales revenue. The total industrial production value was RMB 130 billion in 2005, in which RMB 40 billion was created in the metal processing machine tools, increasing by 20% both in the total industrial production value and the sales revenue. China machine tool industry is expected to maintain a growth rate of around 15% in 2006 and the total industrial value will amount to RMB 150 billion, among which metal processing machine will contribute a sales value of RMB 45 billion and the production volume of CNC metal cutting machine will make a breakthrough of 70,000 sets.
Though both production volume and demand see stable rise, China machine tool industry still relies on imports to a large extent, especially for the high end CNC machine tools and high precision machine tools. As for the overall profit making ability of the industry, it takes on optimistic prospect. But for those medium and small sized enterprises, for the less obviously cost advantage and high marketing expense, the profit making abilities are not that good. Therefore, the enterprises should focus on the input of scientific research if they want to share a place in the market for the future.
Great changes have been taken place in China machine tool industry in the year of 2005. The reform of shareholding system in industrial enterprises, the increasing number of enterprises with foreign investment and the merger and acquisition of enterprises across industries and areas as well as the cooperation among major companies plays an important role in optimizing the resources, improving the product quality and enlarging the market share of Chinas homemade machine tools.
The key points in China machine tool industry are as follows: the industry is tending to develop stably, the medium and high level CNC products will be separated from the low level ones and that the production of high precision and large machine tools will keep rapid growth. The development of CNC machine tools, CNC systems and key functional parts and components have been listed as the major development projects in Chinas the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, which provides great opportunities for Chinas machine tool industry. With further improvement of the industrial concentration, both foreign and private capital will continue to enter into Chinas domestic machine tool industry.
In the next five to ten years, the machine tool industry will bear with the most development potential among the sub-industries of machinery industry. Challenges and opportunities coexist in the industrial investment. As for the enterprises, the key is to grasp core technologies to develop high proficient, automatic machine tools.
