Understanding IT Budget Trends H2 2006 (Customer Focus)

IT budgets have grown in 2006 and the prospects for 2007 are positive. As a part of its ongoing Technology Trends service we have surveyed 800 enterprises in Western Europe and the US with the aim of exploring variations in IT budgets by vertical market, geography and type of expenditure.
Scope of this title: - Estimates overall trends in IT budget growth and assesses the variations in eight geographies, ten vertical markets and five enterprise size bands. - Investigates 2006 and 2007 IT budget allocation by expenditure type (hardware, software and services). - Defines with whom enterprises are engaging and spending their budgets with. - Rates the objectives that are driving enterprises IT investment strategies and defines a set of objectives specific to each vertical market.
Highlights of this title: - The IT market has been recovering ever since the economic slowdown earlier in the decade. Together with a better understanding of the strategic importance of IT investment, this has had a positive effect on enterprises IT budgets. In 2006 IT budgets have increased, and they are likely to continue growing in 2007, albeit possibly by a slower rate. - The survey indicates that combined spending on hardware and software covers two thirds of IT budget allocation. Moreover, the analysis of spending by type of expenditure across enterprise size bands, industry sector and geography shows that these two categories are treated as core spending areas. - IT budget spending by provider type and an averaged rating of IT providers show that the internal IT department is the primary point of call when it comes to addressing an enterprises IT requirements. However, at the same time, the survey data indicates that two thirds of the budgets are spent externally.
