Workplace Portal Market Analysis
Ovum, July 2007, Pages: 16
After a period of considerable turbulence in the first half of this decade, the portal market has now stabilised. The market for standalone portal software is dominated by a very small number of vendors, principally IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and BEA. The market is showing real signs of maturity with the products stabilising on a common set of core functions and the rate of new releases slowing down to less than one per year for most of the vendors. There is even wide agreement, and use, of a core set of basic standards.
The hype of everything being a portal has moved on towards the concept of ‘workplaces’ or ‘workplace portals’. In the large majority of cases, this is more than just the next generation of marketing spin and reflects a true evolution of the portal and user interfaces.
