China Pump Industry Report, 2007 (Chinese Version)

As important general machinery goes, the pump is widely applied to industry fields such as thermal power, nuclear power, petroleum exploring, petrochemistry, urban water supply and environmental protection as well as agriculture fields of hydro project and agricultural irrigation.
According to statistics which covered 141 member enterprises of China General Machinery Pump Industry Association, the total industrial output value of these enterprises achieved RMB 16.699 billion in 2005, up by 42% year on year, sales revenue RMB 15.69 billion with 40%, total pre-tax profits RMB 1.7 billion with 65% and total profits RMB 970 million with 64.4%.
China’s domestic pump industry will continue to grow at a growth rate of 11%-12% in the next 3-5 years. Especially, driven by China’s active policies for expanding domestic demands, the strong demands for the pump from main sectors like power, steel & iron and petrochemistry as well as the rapid growth of urban infrastructural construction, China’s pump industry will maintain a sustainable development at a rate of 2%-3% higher than that of machinery industry.
Presently, pump products include the centrifugal pump, mixed-flow pump, axial flow pump, peripheral pump, rotary-displacement pump, reciprocating displacement pump and water ring vacuum pump, etc, among which, calculated by unit, centrifugal pump accounts for 80% and, rotary & reciprocating displacement pumps account for 18%. There are now more than 2,000 pump manufacturers, which have taken some scales, and pump products have reached over 5,000 varieties in around 450 series.
China's pump market has been paid much more attention by world pump manufacturers since its entry into WTO, and world top 20 pump manufacturers have already established or are planning to set up their branches in China. These companies have not only received high reputations but also high market shares in the given fields.
Chinese pump manufacturers still lag far behind those large-scale advanced overseas counterparts in terms of scale, technology and development for new product, new technology and new process. As for the high-technological-content pump products, the market shares are mainly controlled by overseas manufacturers as the advantages over Chinese counterparts. So, for Chinese pump enterprises, only when they constantly make innovations in product technology, manufacturing process, management mechanism and marketing ideas, etc, can they succeed in the rampant domestic and international competition.
