The UK Market For Office Furniture 2007
Business and Research Associates, March 2007, Pages: 80
The research took place during the period from December 2006 to February 2007 and this report presents the findings from that investigation.
The broad categories covered in this report are as follows:-
- Seating Including adjustable and non-adjustable task seating, secretarial seating, executive and reception seating, manufactured from wood, metal or other materials. Upholstered seating is also included.
- Workstations, desks and tables Including workstations, secretarial and executive desks and tables of all types and drawing office equipment; products are constructed from wood, metal or other materials.
- Filing cabinets and other storage equipment Including specialist products for drawing offices; products in this category are mainly of metal or wood construction.
- Other office furniture Including miscellaneous furniture not specified elsewhere and usually manufactured from metal or wood. Screens form a major product group within this category.
The project also covered contract furniture, defined as products within the above categories usually with specific design characteristics and often manufactured for particular clients. We have also updated earlier information to make the data comparable and to enable companies to make full use of the findings.
The scope of the current project has also been widened to include office furniture products supplied to all non-office locations, with the main criteria used being the products themselves, rather than the end use category.
The market under review is the UK market comprising the following geographical areas:-
England Scotland Wales Northern Ireland
Methodology
The project was carried out using the following research methods: - Desk and bibliographic research - Telephone interviews - Personal interviews - Analysis of evaluation of information
The initial stages of the survey consisted of desk research, which was used to extract and collate published information on the market under review and to obtain details of manufacturers and suppliers and the products currently available. Desk research was also used to evolve a suitable sampling frame for personal and telephone interviews.
Telephone interviews are the most economic means of obtaining basic information and are most useful when the data being collected is of a standardised nature. Accordingly this method was used to obtain the bulk of information in this research project. In addition, a number of personal interviews were carried out in those circumstances where the information required was of a more complex nature.
A summary of the interviews carried out during the course of this investigation is shown in Appendix II.
