The recovery in the PC market has been stronger than originally anticipated. In China, sales in the summer peak season were very high, while in the European and US markets back-to-school demand has gradually started to pick up. The Greater Chinese motherboard industry enjoyed 25.4% year-on-year shipment volume growth in the third quarter of 2003. Gradual maturing of Hyperthreading and WLAN technologies ensured that the industry also enjoyed year-on-year value growth. Given the peak sales season effect the price reductions that are being implemented by Intel and other CPU and chipset suppliers, fourth quarter shipment volume of the Greater Chinese motherboard industry is anticipated to resume the trend of growth evident in the third quarter.
