Business Objects EPO 2.1
The OLAP Report, Oct 2006, Pages: 28
A sophisticated driver-based planning application, built on ABC (activity-based costing) foundations, developed by ALG which was acquired by Business Objects in October 2006.
Now owned by Business Objects, ALG Softwares Enterprise Performance Optimisation (EPO) suite is pitched as a CPM solution geared specifically towards financial applications such as profitability analysis, planning, budgeting and forecasting.
To our mind, EPO is fundamentally an OLAP tool kit with an activity based costing (ABC) application built in. As such the product has carved an interesting market niche typically serving the financial services and government sectors in mainly English and French speaking countries with ABC as well as activity-based planning and budgeting.
Version 2.1, reviewed here, offers a number of new features and improvements including:
- Configurable properties for any dimension item - The ability to bulk load into an EPO database (on Oracle) from other Oracle tables. - The ability to override activity-to-cost-object assignment paths by version and/or period - Support for single sign-on (SSO) on Windows NTLM, Windows Active Directory, LDAP and Oracle COREid (previously Oblix) - New calculation options that allow the model builder to determine what values are calculated as part of the calculation process
In this 28-page review, we reveal:
- Strengths and weaknesses in performance times; - The lowdown on EPOs sophisticated calculation engine; - Hard-to-find pricing information on EPO
