China Automobile Gear Market Report, 2006-2007

China automobile industry developed rapidly since the year of 2000. The output and sales volume reached 55,707,688 units and 5,758,189 units respectively in 2005, up by 12.56% and 13.54% over the previous year; the output and sales volume reached 3,630,287 units and 3,535,246 units separately in Jan-Jun 2006, increased by 28.94% and 26.71% year-on-year. The fast development of China automobile industry has driven the automobile gear industry to grow at a high speed.
Due to the great progress of China automobile industry, the gear industry has also witnessed a growth at an average rate of nearly 20% in recent five years. There are now around one thousand gear enterprises in China, among which more than 50 have reached the scales of RMB 100 million, and the capital structure of China gear industry mainly covers joint stock, private capital and sole proprietorship/joint venture.
As for the automobile gear, the backbone gear manufacturers and institutes represented by Shanghai Automobile Gear Works Co., Ltd and Shanxi Fast Gear Co., Ltd have completed the technical introduction and digest for gear products such as automobile gear, motorcycle gear, high-speed heavy-duty gear, etc., which has promoted the leap development of China gearing manufacturing in recent 10 years.
Basically, the manual automobile gearbox (including heavy, medium, light and mini gearboxes), sedan gearbox and motorcycle gear now can be produced at China and can meet the demands of automobile makers, and moreover, some of gears and gearboxes have been exported; but the automatic automobile gearbox currently still depends on import; in the aspects of vehicle drive axle, driving/driven spiral bevel gear and wheel redactor, most of them can meet China's domestic demands; the drive axle and bevel gear industry represented by Dongfeng Axle Co., Ltd is experiencing an integration and reorganization, which indicates a promising future.
China gear industry can see a brilliant prospect but it still far lags behind that of Europe, the U.S. and Japan, which is reflected here that the independent innovation capacity is not so strong, developing a new product always takes a long time, and such problems as disorderly market competition, poor management, low information degree also exist, and the comprehensive quality of the employees needs to be further improved.
