In 2006, the application and development of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology continued the trend of rationality and pragmatism, and China's RFID industry grew steadily last year. As RFID application developed and extended, there was less fickleness and hurly-burly on the issue of standard development. More and more relevant parties, including governmental departments and enterprises are working together to make common efforts. As Wal-Mart gradually implements its RFID application plan, more and more Chinese enterprises participated in the application process. As far the industrial application, in terms of counterfeit-proof, the G2 ID is still taking the leading position; in terms of safety, hazardous substances management and food track grew at a rather fast speed; and in terms of industrial control, there also made some breakthroughs.
Besides, standard competition is becoming more practical. In June 2006, White Book on China RFID Technology Policy, compiled and demonstrated by experts from 14 ministries and commissions including Ministry of Information Industry and Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC, was officially issued. In December 2006, Animal RFID Code Structure, the recommended national standard in terms of RFID animal application, formally started implementation.
In the next few years, the RFID market scale in mainland China will keep a steady growth. According to a rough estimation, the RFID market scale of mainland China will reach RMB 4.08 billion by the year of 2010, among which the market scale of hardware, software and service will reach RMB 2.37 billion, RMB 1.05 billion and RMB 0.66 billion respectively. During this period, the year of 2008 will witness leap development with a RFID market scale of RMB 3.05 billion, among which the hardware, software and service will reach RMB 1.89 billion, RMB 0.74 billion and RMB 0.42 billion respectively.
