China Micro-motor Industry Report, 2006-2007

As the rapid development of China micro-motor industry in terms of total industrial output value, sales revenue and gross profit in recent years, ResearchInChina believes, the trend is resulted from the increasingly growing demands of downstream consumption industries both at home and abroad. Besides, the rapid development of such fields as consumer electronics, industrial automotive system, household electric appliance, office automation system, communication and traffic, military equipment, electric tools, instrument and meter and electric toy drove the scale expansion of China micro-motor industry. According to the statistics, there are about 1000 micro-motor manufacturers in mainland China, and they can produce around 3 billion micro-motors annually.
China micro-motor market will focus on AC single-phase motor and low-power brush DC motor applied in household electric appliance in the future. The annul output of AC single-phase motor for electric equipments including household electric appliance will reach more than 200 million units; the annual output of brush AC motor for video processing, acoustic equipment and toys will exceed 250 million unites; the annual output of low-voltage DC micro-motor for auto electric appliance will be about 60 million unites; and the annual output of brush or brushless DC motor for computer and peripheral devices will exceed 100 million. The output of above-mentioned micro-motors accounts for nearly 50% of the total market demand of China. Therefore, ResearchInChina believes that China micro-motor industry can still see huge market potentials, especially in the emerging industries.
Furthermore, with strong market demands and geographic advantages, the coastal regions and coastal regions based enterprises will stand out. Yangtze Rive Delta, Pearl River Delta and Bohai Rim Region, which are China's major bases for production, export and R&D, are expected to play the leading role in the future development, among which Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu own 80% of enterprises all over China.
From a long term view, China micro-motor industry will put its development emphasis on the following technologies in the next 10 years: AC micro-motor and frequency conversion control technology, brushless motor and control technology, permanent magnetic AC servo motor and control system, stepping motor and drive & control technology, linear motor and drive & control technology, switched reluctance motor and drive & control technology, ultrasonic motor and the application technology, etc.
The industry concentration, market competition and product quality will be the key influencing factors for profit making. Meanwhile, the reform of the enterprises, the change of export policies as well as the issues on trade barriers and raw material cost will bring both challenges and opportunities for the development of the industry.
