The Taiwanese WLAN Industry, 2003 and Beyond

In the fourth quarter of 2003 the Taiwanese WLAN industry was affected by components shortage. Nevertheless, with global notebook PC sales growing 14% sequentially, and strong demand over the holiday season, Taiwanese WLAN shipment rose to11.6 million units in the fourth quarter, representing 26% sequential growth while the industry's shipment value totaled US$221.3 million, 34% up on the third quarter. With aggressive promotion of 802.11g products by retail channel players such as Linksys and Netgear, and with leading notebook PC vendors HP and Dell speeding up their adoption of 802.11g modules, 802.11g's share of total NIC shipments rose to 45%, contributing to the continuing rise in WLAN NIC ASP.
