PMPs Don't Draw Enough Interest From Potential Users in China
In-Stat/MDR, Aug 2007, Pages: 20
Portable media players are an emerging product, and there is some dispute as to how successful they will be. Do consumers really need an all-in-one device? Can PMPs make a wave in the same way that MP3 players did? To understand the PMP market, we conducted an online survey in March 2007 of 733 users drawn from a dynamic panel of about 1.2 million Internet users in mainland China. The survey was comprised of two parts: questions for PMP users and for non-PMP users.
For current PMP users, we wanted to know what kinds of PMP they were using, how often they used them, what they used them for, where they obtained video files, what problems they had experienced with their players, and what expectations they had for future players. For non-PMP users, we researched their attitudes toward PMPs, why they did not own one, whether they had plans to purchase one in the future and, if so, what kind of PMP they planned to purchase. We then conducted a comprehensive and penetrating analysis of consumer usage and attitudes toward PMPs. The report will prove useful to current PMP makers and other companies that want to jump into the PMP market. In addition, IC vendors can learn more about what PMP features users prefer.
