As Telstra’s $3 billion fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) investment plan remains on hold, the importance of ADSL2/2+ as the main vehicle for true broadband in Australia has risen significantly. ADSL2/2+ services are increasingly being made available in Australia, by new infrastructure providers that are deploying ADSL2/2+ compliant DSLAMs as well as existing DSL operators that are rapidly upgrading their networks to support ADSL2/2+ standard.

This research provides an update to the Telsyte DSLAM Infrastructure Round-up Research Note, first published in August 2005. This research note presents:

- An overview of the current state of DSL infrastructure deployment in Australia by various service providers as of August 2006;
- Brief profiles of DSL infrastructure providers with detailed information on their current DSLAM rollout, known future rllout plans, geographic coverage, DSLAM equipment suppliers, and types of DSL services offered;
- Discussion on DSL infrastructure availability in each state with information on metro and regional rollouts, infrastructure provider presence in each state, and the state of DSL infrastructure competition in metro and regional markets; and
- Discussion on current ADSL2/2+rollouts and plans for the next 12 months of the 13 ADSL2/2+ providers, as well as an analysis of ADSL2/2+ deployment in metro and regional areas nationwide.

In this report, we consider service providers that own DSL infrastructure in Australia.
