In 2006, the output of cement in China reached 1.235 billion tons, up 15.5% year-on-year; and the flat glass output amounted to 455 million weight boxes, up 9.8% from a year earlier and, the growth rates in further processing glass, plasterboard, building ceramic, refractory materials, stone processing and brick/tile production all approached or exceeded 25%. Building materials enterprises above the designated size realized gross industrial output value of RMB 1327.5 billion, rising 29.1%; the industrial added value reached RMB 421 billion, increasing 21.6% and, the average proportion of building products sold was as high as 97.7%.
In 2006, the main product revenue of China building materials industry amounted to RMB 1153.4 billion, up 29.3% year-on-year; and the profit totaled RMB 60.3 billion, increasing 47.1% from a year earlier.
In Jan-Mar 2007, fixed assets investment of building materials industry reached more than RMB 32.8 billion, up 41.4% year-on-year, among which cement industry attracted about RMB 6.93 billion, up 39.4%; and flat glass was RMB 1.19 billion, down 22.8%. In the first quarter of 2007, the total number of construction projects and newly commenced projects were 2270 and 916, increasing 476 and 81 respectively.
