    Report

  • September 2019
  • Region: Global
  • Primary Research Group
  • ID: 4848791

The study presents data and commentary from 116 academic library directors, deans, and other high ranking library officials about their views of their own and other library cafes.  The report contains highly specific data on the percentage of libraries that plan to expand or contract their cafes, as well as data on which institutional entity manages the library café.  In addition, respondents rated their level of satisfaction with their library café, discuss what they like or dislike, and what precisely they plan for the future.

Data in the report is broken out by many institutional and personal variables including but not limited to the age and gender of the administrator and the size, public/private status, student enrollment level, and tuition level of the respondent’s institution.

Just a few of the survey’s many findings are that:

  • 61.54% of institutions with FTE enrollment of more than 10,000 students had a library café.
  • Private colleges were much less likely than public colleges to want to refurbish their library cafes.
  • Close to a third of all colleges and universities surveyed had cafes managed by their internal institutional foodservice divisions.
  • Satisfaction levels were greatly impacted by Carnegie classification –  in general, the more research-oriented the institution, the higher the satisfaction levels with the library café.
