This book illustrates how to use process simulators, like Matlab and Aspen, to optimize the designs of chemical reactors and their control systems. The material and approaches in this book stress the importance of process design and equipment on the reactor control. As such, the book provides integrated coverage of the many practical and important issues involved in design of reactors and their control systems. The authors emphasize the critical impact of steady-state design on the dynamics and stability of reactors. The development of stable and practical reactors and effective control systems for the three types of classical reactors are covered: continuous stirred tank (CSTR), batch, and tubular plug flow.

The safe, economic, and consistent operation of chemical reactors is essential for the profitable production of a vast variety of chemical products. Chemical Reactor Design and Control is a practical and unique reference for chemical engineers seeking to optimize the design of chemical reactors and their control systems.

This book:
-Illustrates how to use process simulators, like Matlab and Aspen, to facilitate design
-Provides integrated coverage of the many practical and important issues involved in design of reactors and their control systems
-Covers three types of classical reactors: continuous stirred tank (CSTR), batch, and tubular plug flow
-Includes sample problems to help readers to grasp the concepts.

Authors Bio:
William Luyben is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University.  In addition to 38 years of teaching, Dr. Luyben spent nine years as an engineer with Exxon and DuPont.  Over the years he has written nine books (most recently Distillation Design and Control Using Aspen Simulation, Wiley 2006) and more than 200 papers. He was the 2004 recipient of the Computing Practice Award from the CAST Division of the AIChE and elected in 2005 to the Process Automation Hall of Fame.
