About James Hanft:
JAMES E. HANFT has a broad intellectual property practice that is focused on patent litigation and counseling, but extends to trademarks, false advertising, licensing and patent procurement. He works closely with clients to develop defensive and offensive strategies that are tailored to meet the client’s objectives and needs. In providing practical and cost-effective strategies for clients, Mr. Hanft draws on his technical background, including his B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a concentration in digital electronics and software and his experience as an engineer at one of the world’s leading technology companies. Since joining Darby, Mr. Hanft has extended his technical expertise to include electronics, mechanical processes, computer hardware and software and business methods. Mr. Hanft has extensive experience with licensing and enforcement of world famous trademarks, as well as implementing licensing strategies for his clients’ patent portfolios. In addition to handling day-to-day counseling, he has also been involved in extensive federal court proceedings from discovery through trial. Representative cases include obtaining transfer and then stay pending reexamination in Baxa Corp. v. ForHealth Techs. (2006); defense jury verdict in GTE Wireless, Inc. v. Cellexis Intl, Inc. (2004); dismissal for lack of jurisdiction in Nanovibronix, Inc. v. Weiss (2004); defense jury verdict in Allegiance Healthcare v. SSL (2002); and favorable settlement during trial in Sigma-Tau Industrie Farmaceutiche Riunite, S.P.A. v. Lonza, Ltd. (2000).
