Japan’s Latest Cosmetic Ingredients & Technology 2007

The level of technology at cosmetics makers is said to be higher in Japan than anywhere, and the industry in Japan is winning international attention as a result. This study, entitled “Japan’s Latest Cosmetics Ingredients & Technology 2007,” examines and summarizes the latest materials and technology used in cosmetics being developed and sold by Japanese manufacturers. We provide website and email contact information for manufacturers. For each product item, we provide the characteristics, applications, INCI name and technical data such as chemical formula, physical properties and clinical test and study information.
This report covers 117 manufacturers and a total of 311 materials and technologies. Part B, “The State of Cosmetics Ingredients Industry” summarizes the current status of the Japanese cosmetics raw material market and gives a forecast of its future. Part C, “Cosmetic Ingredients Gaining Popularity in Japan,” focuses on nine types of beautifying substances. For three of those - AC-11, EGF and astaxanthin - we report on trends at manufacturers of ingredients with those substances as well as manufacturers of consumer products using them. Part D, “Topics in the Development of the Latest Cosmetic Products’ Ingredients,” presents a detailed look at the newest cosmetics technologies and ingredients developed in Japan. Part E, “New Cosmetics Ingredients and Technology at Specific Companies,” offers detailed information, including cosmetics raw materials and technical information, from companies that exhibited at CITE Japan 2007 such as Asahi Kasei Chemicals, Ajinomoto, Ichimaru Pharcos, Kao, Katakura Chikkarin, Shiseido, Shiraco, Sumitomo 3M, Tayca, Dow Corning Toray, Nichirei Biosciences, Nippon Shikizai and Hosokawa Micron.
Part F, “Innovative New Consumer Cosmetics,” looks at a select number of consumer cosmetics with especially remarkable materials or packaging. Part G, “Appendix: Cosmetics Industry Statistics” is a statistical reference of domestic and imported cosmetics products. Regarding domestic products, it includes sales volume and sales values of products by product item (FY2006), change in sales value for each distribution channel of 150 companies (2003 to 2006) and sales amount of the top 30 companies. For imported cosmetics products, it includes total import value and import value by item and source country (FY2006). We have been conducting market research on the Japanese cosmetics industry for 30 years.
This report provides a useful look at potential Japanese partners for technical cooperation, technology transfers and import/export of cosmetics raw material and technologies.
