An Insight into U.S. Mobile Connection Aggregation Markets
Frost & Sullivan, Oct 2007, Pages: 71
This Frost & Sullivan research service titled An Insight into U.S. Mobile Connection Aggregation Markets provides an overview of the major trends and expected developments in the market; and provides forecasts for aggregator revenues, operator revenues, and content provider revenues. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following markets: off-deck mobile content and mobile connection aggregation.
Increasing Off-deck Mobile Content Revenues Translate into Greater Market Opportunity for Connection Aggregators
Hidden behind the scenes in the off-deck mobile content markets are connection aggregators, who, apart from providing connectivity, also play an extremely important role enabling off-deck content distribution and billing. Off-deck mobile content revenues are expected to exceed $2 billion by 2011, which translates into greater market opportunity for connection aggregators.
Mobile operators prefer having to deal with a few connection providers, rather than managing hundreds of associations with content providers. This leads to great efficiencies at the operators’ end, and also allows them to maintain large control over their off-deck offerings. Content providers also do not have to establish individual agreements with multiple mobile operators, and have the choice of partnering with ‘approved’ connection aggregators to sell their wares on the mobile networks. 'Hence, it is critical for connection aggregators to establish broad relationships with content providers and mobile operators by 2008 in order to be in an advantageous position in the long term,' cites the analyst of this research service.
Higher Priced Transactions Result in Better Payouts to Connection Aggregators
In the early stages of the off-deck mobile content markets, lower-priced mobile marketing applications accounted for the majority of the revenues. 'However, with content services gradually becoming popular in off-deck and as subscription-based pricing is adopted on a larger scale, mobile operators are willing to share more with the value-chain participants at higher price points,' explains the analyst. 'Hence, the U.S. off-deck content markets could consistently see higher-priced transactions contributing the large majority of revenues, resulting in better payouts for connection aggregators.'
In order to ensure that higher-priced subscriptions continue to constitute the largest component of the revenue pie, connection aggregators must guarantee a clear value proposition for their services and avoid commoditization of services. Apart from providing core services such as connectivity, reporting, settlement, and others, they can also help the content providers in various other ways. These include application development, smart messaging services, storefront development, and others. Such services create and additional revenue stream and are also important to compete in the young U.S. off-deck mobile content services markets.
